New York State Police troopers on patrol at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning stopped a 2006 Jeep on I-84 in Southeast after the driver - later identified as Bridgton, Maine resident Adam Sokoloski, 25 - was spotted making multiple vehicle and traffic infractions.
During the traffic stop, police reported that the smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, leading to further investigation. Troopers determined that Sokoloski was under the influence of drugs, and he was in possession of a loaded .40 caliber Glock 23, a high capacity magazine and more than $3,500 in cash.
Sokoloski was arrested at the scene and charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a high capacity ammunition clip and criminal possession of a weapon. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.
Following arraignment in the Town of Southeast Court, Sokoloski was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
